Leon Camier's advantage was slashed in this afternoon's Swan Combi 50 - Roll for Pole qualifying session at Cadwell Park, with the opposition closing in on the Airwaves Yamaha rider in the final top ten shootout.
Camier was able to hold off his rivals to secure his seventh pole of the season in a fast and frantic ten minute session. The championship leader admits that he still struggles at the Mountain section of the circuit after his crash here in 2007, but he now feels confident of more success in the two races tomorrow.
Camier said: "This is a pretty special pole for me as I have had so much bad luck here in the past, especially after my big crash when I broke my leg and pelvis at the Mountain. As a result of that I feel that I needed to prove to myself that I could do it and that all that is behind me now for good. I am still riding a bit cautiously over the Mountain but I think if you are a bit slower there it doesn't make too much of a difference.
"I need to get a good start tomorrow, which is not my strongest part of the race and I have done a couple of practice starts that have been ok, although that normally means that when I do it for real I mess it up! It is difficult here and I know that I need to be in the leading group in the last few laps. If I can't win then I will have to accept it as I certainly don't want to do anything crazy that could ruin the championship."
